With the Paris Haute Couture Week in full swing, the Spring 2025 Chanel haute couture collection is the next one on our radar. With Schiaparelli setting the bar pretty high, we can imagine how difficult it is to follow for the rest of the Spring 2025 haute couture players. Even when it comes to such a mogul among fashion houses, like Chanel.
After the passing of the one and only Karl Lagerfeld, Chanel had a lot of ups and downs. There were talks about the house not being what it used to be, Chanel losing its signature class, unjustifiable price rises as well as a significant decrease in the quality of their products. *cough, Chanel Classic Flap, cough*. Now, we know there were a lot of controversies around the Austrian fashion designer. Especially with the fashion word finally shifting towards more inclusivity. But there is no doubt Lagerfeld truly was one of a kind, a fashion mastermind.
‘couture is the laboratory of fashion, an opportunity for the design team to take our breaths away‘
Circling back to the Spring 2025 Chanel haute couture show, we must admit we have very mixed feelings about the collection. They say that couture is the laboratory of fashion, an opportunity for the design team to take our breaths away with the dreamiest gowns of the season. With that in mind, all we have to say is that half of the collection felt somewhat mid. Not to be only negative though, there were still pieces that showcased the dreamy and breathtaking aspect of Chanel haute couture we expected to see. We appreciated the house staying true to its roots, having incorporated its signature tweed and bouclé wool material as well as semi-sheer details and champagne-hued lace dresses finished with huge fabric roses. Here are some of our favourites from the show.
