Festive season fashion guide

festive season fashion on catwalk magazine

How to sparkle (with less sparkle) aka how to tackle the festive season fashion without looking tacky. There is a general misconception that you need glitter or sequins to make your outfits pop and look festive. Well, we are here to prove you wrong.

Let’s be real, we all like to enhance our outfits a bit during the festive season. However, even though Martha May Whovier is a whole vibe, that definitely does not mean dressing head to toe in sequins. Don’t take this the wrong way, you can dress absolutely however you like but unless you are a twelve-year-old (or younger), that might not be the best look for you.

We have gathered some tips to make things a little bit easier (and help you out – as we do) and to make sure your festive season fashion game is on point. Here is how to make your festive outfits sparkle…with less sparkle.

  1. Velvet: This is the OG festive fabric an you can’t tell us otherwise. The special shine of this fabric instantly adds that festive feel to your looks and the thickness makes it a perfect option for the upcoming colder weeks.
  2. Gemstone details: Handbags, tights, over-the-clothes-garments. If you don’t mind the actual bling in your outfits, there’s no better time for those than now.
  3. Silk & Satin: You can never go wrong with silk or satin. It screams elegance and luxury and elevates every outfit. For the festive season in particular, we love the combination of silk maxi skirt and a good quality knit.
  4. Patent/Vinyl: Because rock’s not dead and neither is our festive wardrobe. Patent trousers add that “bling” effect to your look without actually having to wear “bling”.
  5. Silver Pieces: Is silver the new black? Who knows, but a number of the most famous women in the world, such as Kim Kardashian, Kylie Jenner or Beyoncé, proved us that silver is definitely becoming the new IT colour of the season.
  6. Gold & Silver Stitching: Subtle but powerful. And adds that little festive touch even to the simplest pieces.
  7. Statement Jewellery: Absolutely timeless pieces and you can never go wrong with a pair of statement earrings or a head turning necklace.
  8. Incorporate festive colours into your outfits: Red, emerald green, navy blue, gold, silver…you get the memo. Even if that means only a touch of gold in your eye shadow, red lipstick or emerald green manicure.
