Raise your wands for Professor McGonagall having proved once again she is, in fact, the boss. Dame Maggie Smith already stole all of our hearts not with her outstanding talent, but little did we know she had another surprise for us.

Unless you live under a rock you must have heard the news of Loewe’s new spring 2024 pre-collection campaign. It was launched earlier this month featuring a couple of familiar faces, including Greta Lee, Josh O’Connor, and Taeyong. That being said, the one who undoubtedly stole the spotlight was no other than Maggie Smith, aka our beloved Minerva McGonagall. The 88-year-old actress proved to be the most refreshing cameo of all. And let’s be real, the plot twist we didn’t know we needed. This surprise took the internet by a storm and social media went nuts over the new campaign featuring no other but the Dame herself.
“Maggie Smith for Loewe is so iconic”, wrote an X user in reaction to the released photos. “maggie smith posing for a brand is another thing not on the 2023 bingo card but I mean, slay”, wrote another.
We know, fashion brands casting “surprise figures” is nothing new. Smith’s photos immediately brought up Joan Didion’s for Celine. Some even call Loewe’s campaign featuring Smith ‘Didion coded’. Willem Dafoe was another ‘surprise’ during the Prada’s fall 2012 men’s show, as well as Pamela Anderson for Jacquemus last year. All that being said, there is something iconic about Maggie Smith being a Loewe girl. Almost like a breath of fresh air. And let’s be honest, that is exactly what the fashion industry needs.
