Met Gala 2023 is over and it took us a minute to decide whether this year has been a hit or miss. The theme being Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty, met with both appreciation and critique. Although some were touched and excited to pay tribute to the late designer and fashion mastermind, others criticised the theme choice considering Lagerfeld’s controversial opinions.

Although Met Gala is still “fashion’s biggest night out”, it has met several criticism among the public. That is for several reasons. Firstly, in the past couple of years, celebrities seemed to be putting less and less effort into actually following the theme. That has been met with disappointment and started making the Met Gala look just like “any other red carpet event”.
And secondly, the guest list. During the past couple of years, reality stars, online personas, influencers started receiving invites to the Met Gala. And that made the event, in the eye or a regular spectator, much less glamorous and not as appealing. It was even described as tacky. Brutal but, let’s be honest, true. It had to be said. Well, long story short, all of the above are the reason for this year’s Met Gala being under such scrutiny.
Well, even though the carpet gave us less than nothing this year, let’s be honest, we have been pleasantly surprised by some of the guests’ dedication to the theme.
